My Native Land is Perumpuzha
in Kollam District, Kerala, India. The junction is the meeting place of
Kottiyam-Kundara & Kollam-Veliyam roads. Distance from Kollam is about
15Km. Near to junction there is a market called Perumpuzha market.
Attornment Hospital is just 5 minutes walk from the junction. If you walk
3minutes from junction towards north, a cashew factory is there. My father was
working here. Previously it was under the Dalmia Management. The local name for
the company was 'Sayippinte Company'. But now it is under CAPEX (A Kerala State
Govt. undertaking).
The roads from junction towards south is to Kureepally,
west Punukannoor, north Kundara & towards east Nallila. To reach My Home
move towards east. The road goes down, within 1Km Thrikkovikkal Temple comes in
the left side. Temple pond, paddy fields, canal, etc. Look right & left from the
road in the midst of the fields. Green extends to infinity. From Kallupalam, if
you turn right & walk by the side of the canal, you can reach my home. But from
here about 15 minutes walk is there. During my schooling from 6th level to
College, I used this way to walk. I was having a bicycle too to ride. Now, we
shall move straight from Kallupalam through the tarred road. See to left side a
Kurisupally is there, after which Sharon Pentecost Hall. A 90degree turning
towards right and the road goes up, to Arattuvila. See towards right, the house
of Charuvila Cheriyachan is there, he was my Sunday School teacher. Go straight.
By the right side Melevila Family, after which the Ambanadu family houses
starts. This is the root family to which I belongs. I heard that my ancestors
were inhabited from Ambanadu a place near to Chathannoor. Thus we were called as
Ambanadans. The eldest son in the family was Chacko, my Grand Father. I didn't
see him. The eldest son to him was Thomas, my father and to him the eldest was
myself. Let us move again towards straight (south). Turn left. Now, you look
back towards west. Jacobite Christian Church is there, to which originally I
belong, though now I have changed my denomination to Pentecost. Ok, let us move
straight (east). From Asan Mukku turn right. Now, if you look back again you can
see the road towards Pazhangalam Puthanveettil UP School, where I studied from 1st to 5th
level. Now we are reaching Eachadi Mukku. The main road ends here to my home.
Turn right through the bye road, it is tarred now. From this junction only 2
minutes walk. Yes, a turning is there, turn right. Look straight, My House is
there. Enjoy the beauty of this village place staying some days in my
home.
Kundara is the nearest town.

Kollam
or Quilon is known as the land of cashews. It
an old sea port town on the Arabian coast , stands on the Ashtamudi
lake. Kollam , the erstwhile Desinganadu, had a sustained commercial reputation
from the days of
the Phoenicians and the Romans. Fed by the Chinese trade, it was regarded by Ibn
Batuta, as one of the five ports , which he had seen in the course of his
travels during a period of twenty four years, in the 14th century.
The rulers of kollam (Desinganadu) and China ,
exchange embassies and there was flourishing Chinese settlement at Kollam.
Merchant Sulaiman of Siraf in Persia ( 9th Century) found Kollam to be the only
port in India , touched by the huge Chinese junks , on his way from Carton of
Persian Gulf. Marco Polo, the great Venician traveller, who was in Chinese
service under Kublahan in 1275, visited Kollam and other towns on the west
coast, in his capacity as a Chinese mandarin.
The Portuguese were the first Europeans to establish a trading center at Kollam
in 1502. Then came the Dutch followed by the British in 1795. A British garrison
was stationed at Kollam in pursuance of a treaty between Travancore and the
British.
Velu Thampi Dalawa of Travancore, did much for the improvement of the
Kollam town. He build new bazaars and invited merchants from Madras and
Thirunelveli to settle here. Kollam later became the capital of the enlightened
and liberal rulers of Desinganad. It was also the nerve center for the rebellion
organized by Velu Thampi against the British. Once a city of palaces, Kollam has been known to the outside world, by the time
honoured proverb, "Once you have seen Kollam you would no more need your
illam (Home)"
CASHEW
Cashew
processing is a major industrial activity in the district. The Kerala
State Cashew Development Corporation (KSCDC) is the largest processor of
cashewnut in the world. At present, it has 34 factories. K.S.C.D.C.
provides employment to more than 26,000 workers. K.S.C.D.C. exports cashew
kernels and cashewnut sell oil. It also manufactures tannin from cashew
testa; a by-product. The available rawnuts in the state can feed the
factories to only one third of its capacity and hence rawnuts are imported
from abroad.
